- To mix all the fresh flavours in the Mojito you will have to muddle in the glass. Make sure you use a longdrink glass with a sturdy bottom.
- Start with 2 bar spoons of cane sugar and add lemon parts in the glass. Muddle in the glass.
- Add fresh mint leaves. Before adding the leaves slap them in the palm of your hand. You will smell the freshness of the mint directly.
- Use about 5 mint leaves. Also smear the mint over the edge of the glass for extra mint experience. If you want to muddle the mint do it softly without breaking the leaves.
- Add white rum with a jigger. About 30 - 45 ml.
- Fill your glass with crushed ice anb stir with a barspoon to mix everything up. Beware that the mint leaves and lemon parts float in your glass (in stead off laying on the bottom)
- Top off with sparkling water. If you like you can add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.
- Add crushed ice to fill your glass 100%
- Perfectservce with mint leaves
- There you have it! Enjoy your superfresh Mojito!

The Cuban Mojito: the authentical recipe
The Mojito is a wonderfull summer drink and one of the most popular cocktails of the last years. The flavours and the freshness of the mint, the sweetness of the cane sugar, the sourness of the lime and ofcourse the Cuban rum all come perfectly together in this cocktail recipe.
What rum do you use for a Mojito?
Basically we use white rum for this cocktail. Most famous rum brands are Bacardí, Havana Club and Captain Morgan. We also like Plantation rum and Diplomatico rum.
The name of the Mojito
There are several stories about the origin. One thing that is certain is that it is from Cuba. Most probably it was a medical drink made from mint and lime. Others say it is derived from the “Mojo” sauce. A third possibility is that it comes from the Spanish word Mojado (wet).
Mojito f*ck ups
Preparing a Mojito is not so easy due to the different techniques and actions in combination with the variety of ingredients. No Mojito is the same. I have seen so many “deformed” examples. Drinking pieces of sugar cane through your straw. Too watery. Too much rum. Using soda water in stead of sparkling water. Broken mint leaves. Etc etc.
Nice variations on the Mojito
Strawberry Mojito
You can easily vary on the orinigal. Most known is the Strawberry Mojito with strawberries, also known as Mojito Venezolano. Add 2 fresh strawberries and muddle them. Do you like kiwi? Than try a Kiwi Mojito. Use kiwi gold as it is more soft and sweet and goes very well with the rest of the other ingredients. Or make a pitcher with mango, lemon and mint. Een fancy variation is the Mojito Royal. I drank this one at an opening party of a fancy bar. Just replace the sparkling water for champaign.
Low calory recipe
Do you like a Mojito but on a diet? Try a low calory variation with gin and tonic. Add mint and lemon – or a slice of cucumber! – and skip the additional sugar.
Do you prefer a Mojito Virgin of Nojito?
Do you prefer an alcoholfree Mojito? Sure! Than make a “Nojito”. It is made just the same. In stead of the rum use alcoholfree rum such as White Cane from Lyre’s.
